The fashion industry is responsible for up to 10% of humanity’s carbon emissions.
Having this in mind, we wanted to be part of the solution, not the problem. Underwear is one of the only products that is difficult to do without and hard to buy second hand, something that people will always need…so we have decided that we would do the best we can to exist as a underwear brand and still be eco friendly.
The sustainable approach is complex and not always as easy as it looks as the constraints are plenty: the world is definitely made for non-sustainable options… We might make mistakes during our journey but we will learn to make Bimba a responsible brand.
From the design to the conception of our products, here are some of the examples we implement daily:
Organic and recycled fibers
Our preference goes to natural fabrics that are organic or recycled. However for certain models and customers we use synthetic fabric only if these are recycled (recycled polyester made of PET bottles: these do end up in landfill where this is a low recycling scheme implemented).
Natural dyes every time this is possible
Natural dyes are not always easy to get, which is why we would often stick to basic colors for natural fibers. Recycled polyester offers the possibility for a natural dying process to happen through printing. Some companies using organic fibers apply a chemical process to obtain the desired color; we would avoid this as much as possible.
Fabric certifications
A majority of our products is OEKOTEX or GOTS certified, we would indicate their certifications for each products.
